Tom Hingley, ex frontman/lead singer of Madchester legends Inspiral Carpets is coming to play two intimate gigs in the Isle Of Man.

The Inspiral Carpets, whose sound was based around psychedelic keyboards and guitars, had previously released a number of demos since their formation in 1983. With Tom in the band they released a series of singles on their own label, the last of which, Move, came close to the top 40 in the UK music charts.

In 1990, the band signed a deal with Mute Records and straight away had their first top 40 chart success in the UK, with the single This Is How It Feels, reaching number 14, and their debut album Life reaching number two in the album chart.

The following years saw a number of new albums and singles as well as a successful world tour. In 1995, however, just after their singles album was released, the band split up.

Tom then began his solo career and released two albums on his own label, Newmemorabilia Records — Keep Britain Untidy (2000) and Soulfire (2002). His new acoustic album, Thames Valley Delta Blues, came out in October last year. On the album, he reflects on the world in 2009, commenting on subjects such as mass consumerism, debt, recession and ecstasy.

Tom's performances will take place on Saturday, March 13, in the Function Room at Rendezvous, Douglas, and Sunday, March 14, at the Atholl Room in the Peel Centenary Centre. Tickets for both concerts cost £12 and are available from Peter Norris Music, Douglas and Celtic Gold, Peel. The concerts will start at 8pm (doors open 7.30pm).

Support from Peel based Singer Songwriter Alex Harris.New to the island,  Alex plays original Pop/Rock/Soul similar to John Mayer/James Morrison/David Gray.
